Bermuda is known for its colorful houses with white-roofs. These white roofs serve functional purposes. Since Bermuda's wells only yield brackish or salt water, Bermudians collect rainwater by paving grooves into their roofs in order to funnel water into underground tanks. The white cement wash compound of the roofs not only sanitizes the rainwater but also keeps the houses cooler.

Gombey dancing is a unique performance of colorful costumes, dances, stories and rhythmic drumming. Gombey dancing is a reflection of the island's blended culture-- African, West Indian, English and Native American. During cultural festivities or on special days such as Boxing Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, Gombey troupes will perform in most of Bermuda's main streets. Different Gombey troupes will also meet up for "dance-offs" to show off their best moves. If you hear drumming, you know the party has started. Join the Gombey celebration and feel the pulse of Bermudian culture.
Bermuda has a long history of rum that started back in 1806 when James Gosling set out from England for America and ended up in St. George's, Bermuda after 91 desperate days at sea. That's how Gosling's settled on the island and started formulating rum. Gosling's rum eventually became known as Black Seal Rum, which is a crucial ingredient in the Dark 'N Stormy cocktail. The uniqueness of this cocktail is that it is trademarked by Gosling's. So next time you're drinking a Dark 'N Stormy, a blend of ginger beer and rum-- make sure that what you're drinking is Gosling's.
