Originally known as Idlewild Airport, JFK opened in 1942 on 1,000 acres of marshy tidelands, once the site of the Idlewild golf course. In 1963, the airport was renamed John F. Kennedy International Airport after the late president.

Over the years, many airlines have made JFK their home, including TWA which had its home in the landmark building designed by Eero Saarinen.

JetBlue's T5, which opened in October 2008, was designed to complement the Saarinen building. The Saarinen building, which is managed by the Port Authority of NY & NJ, is not currently open to the public, but when it does JetBlue customers will have the opportunity to access T5 via this iconic building.
