JetBlue and our airline partners can take you to hundreds of destinations around the world. When you're traveling internationally, it's important to be prepared for the trip and to have the appropriate travel documents.

A few things to remember:

  • You must check in for international flights at least 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
  • You must be at the gate at least 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
  • You must check in for international flights online or at the check-in counters at the airport.*


Customers are responsible for meeting all documentation and proof-of-citizen requirements for their travel. A valid passport is required for all customers (regardless of age) traveling to or from the United States. Please note that a passport card cannot be used for airline travel.

All passports must be in good condition (not damaged, torn, or defaced) per the U.S. Department of State. In general, your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date you enter a foreign country. Some countries require 2 to 4 blank pages available in your passport to travel. If the name on your passport or other travel documents does not match the name on your reservation, you may be required to show additional documents, such as a notarized marriage certificate. Some countries may require you to purchase a tourist card and health insurance that must be presented upon arrival.

Non-U.S. Citizens traveling abroad
Some customers may be eligible for a VISA waiver under the Customs and Border Protection’s ESTA program. Travelers are encouraged to apply when preparing travel plans. For more information on the ESTA program visit the CBP ESTA websiteopens in a new window.

Documentation for U.S. Territories (Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. Croix)
All customers should be prepared for random document and baggage inspections in any U.S. territory. While U.S. citizens are not required to have a passport to enter a U.S. territory, it is recommended to carry proof of US residency or citizenship for the return to the United States.

Citizens of countries other than the U.S./U.S. territory must have a valid passport for travel between the U.S. and any U.S. territory.

Global Entry – Frequent International Traveler

When traveling from any of our international destinations to the United States, we suggest you arrive at the airport 2-3 hours before your scheduled departure. Recommended check-in times for each international destination are listed below. Please note: the recommended check-in time for travel to Cuba is 4 hours.

Baggage information

We offer fare options that include different numbers of checked bags. Should your plans change after booking a particular fare, bags may be checked online or at the airport for additional fees. Checked bags that exceed 62" (157.48 cm) in overall dimensions (length + width + height) or exceed 50 pounds (22.68 kg) will also incur a fee. For additional information, please see our checked bag requirements.

Please note that boxes will not be accepted as checked baggage on international flights. As part of the Customs inspection, your baggage may be examined. If you are selected for a Customs inspection, you will be required to open your baggage at the exam station. Once the inspection is complete, you will be required to repack and close the baggage.

Please also be advised that you may need to collect your baggage after clearing Customs and recheck it if you are continuing on a flight. Do not assume that your baggage will be transferred for you.

Carry-on bags

All carry-on bags must not exceed 22" L (55.88 cm) x 14" W (35.56 cm) x 9" H (22.86 cm), including wheels/handles, on all of our aircraft types. This may be stowed in the overhead bin or underneath the seat in front of you.

All personal items must not exceed 17" L (43.2 cm) x 13" W (33 cm) x 8" H (20.32 cm), including wheels/handles, on all of our aircraft types. Personal items must be placed underneath the seat in front of you.

Overweight bags*

  • 51-99 pounds (23.13 - 44.91 kg): $150 per bag
  • Over 99 pounds: Will not be accepted

Oversized bags*

  • 63-80 inches (160.02 - 203.2 centimeters): $150 per bag
  • Bags larger than 80 inches will not be accepted

* Please note: Baggage in excess of two pieces will not be accepted on flights to/from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Peru or Trinidad and Tobago. Overweight and Oversized baggage will not be accepted on flight to/from the Dominican Republic, Haiti or Trinidad and Tobago.

Checked bag requirements for Dominican Republic, Haiti, Peru and Trinidad & Tobago

Customers checking baggage for travel to/from the following destinations must follow the guidelines below.

Please note that boxes WILL NOT be allowed on any international flight. Non-hazardous items may be packed in checked baggage; however, JetBlue will not be liable damage to any fragile items packed within a checked bag (i.e. televisions, electronics, etc.). Humanitarian organizations transporting supplies will be subject to the same baggage allowances and guidelines as other customers.

Dominican Republic, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago

  • Each customer may check a total of two (2) bags.
  • Each bag must NOT exceed 62 inches (157.48 centimeters) in overall dimensions (length + width + height) and CANNOT exceed 50 pounds (22.73 kg). Baggage dimensions are determined by adding the length, width, and height together.
  • Additional baggage and bags that exceed the overall dimensions or weight WILL NOT be allowed onboard flights to/from the Dominican Republic*, Haiti, or Trinidad & Tobago.
    • *Additional baggage will be accepted on flights to/from La Romana, Dominican Republic.

Peru (if booked on/after April 1, 2014)

  • Customers traveling to/from Lima, Peru may check one (1) bag for $25 if the bag is 50 pounds (22.73 kg) or less and 62 inches (157.48 centimeters) or less.
    • There's a fee for a second checked bag.
    • Maximum number of checked bags is two (2), and maximum allowed weight is 70 pounds (31.75 kg) each.

  • Each bag must NOT exceed 62 inches (157.48 centimeters) in overall dimensions (length + width + height). Baggage dimensions are determined by adding the length, width, and height together.
  • Overweight/oversize fees will be applicable to baggage outside of the limitations above - see Checked Baggage Requirements.
  • Baggage allowance and weight restrictions will not apply to customers who booked prior to April 1, 2014.

We accept Visa, Master Card, Discover Card, American Express, JCB, Diners Club and UATP. Debit cards are accepted with one of the above-listed symbols on them.

If you prefer to pay with cash, traveler's check or money order, you may contact a travel agent or book your reservation at the airport. Be sure to check the airport for the specific hours of operation.

Please note: we currently do not accept payments of two or more credit cards online for a single reservation. Pets or service/emotional support animal vaccination and documentation requirements

JetBlue does accept pets (small dogs and cats) for transportation to/from Cuba. Service and emotional support dogs and cats are also accepted.

Dogs and cats may only enter Cuba, from any country, if they are fully compliant with the import requirements:

  • Proof of current rabies vaccination administered at least 30 days prior to entry. Cuba does honor the 3-year vaccine.
  • Veterinary Certificate for Cubaopens in a new window must be completed by a licensed veterinarian shortly prior to entry. A USDA or CFIA licensed veterinarian must complete the APHIS Form 7001 and you must have it endorsed by the USDA or CFIA if traveling from the United States or Canada.

    If you are traveling from another country, the Governing Authority responsible for the import and export of animals should endorse the forms. Veterinary Certificates for Cuba must be accompanied by a notarized copy of the certificate translated in Spanish.
  • A copy of the Rabies Certificate should also be included for endorsement.

Discounts law
In accordance with Ecuadorian legislation, JetBlue offers a 50% discount on airline tickets (with point of origin in Ecuador) for Ecuadorian citizens with disabilities and those over 65 years. To receive the respective discount, customers must present a color copy and the original of their Ecuadorian identity card and/or card CONADIS and purchase tickets at JetBlue’s point of sale – located in the Mariscal Sucre International Airport of Quito between the hours of 9PM and 12AM.

International arrivals
International customers arriving at JFK between 5AM and 10:30PM will arrive at Terminal 5 (T5). International customers arriving after 10:30PM and before 5AM will arrive at Terminal 4. *This is subject to change based on operational needs. Please check the flight status or ask a crewmember at the airport for the latest information.
